Indian scientists have found that vitamin B12 is able to block the reproduction of the coronavirus, and the results of the study were published in the journal IUBMB Life.
Using computer modeling, scientists have been able to determine which molecules contained in natural products and drugs can suppress the action of nsp12, which is contained in the SARS-Cov-2 genome and is responsible for the replication of the virus.
Methylcobalamin, one of the two biologically active coenzyme forms of vitamin B12, has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of viral cells.
This substance can be prescribed as a prevention for at-risk groups - medical staff, the elderly or people with chronic diseases to reduce the risk of infection and the need for emergency hospital care.
Scientists say further research is needed to make changes to the Covid-19 treatment protocol.
